Falkirk v Kilmarnock Betting Preview
Location: Falkirk Community Stadium.
Date: 19th May 2016
Live on BT Sport 1
Falkirk have gotten this far on the back of an incredible never say die attitude.
For that reason its impossible to back against them in this tie but in reality it’s impossible to back against Kilmarnock, too.
The Bairns have played three Premiership sides in the cups this season winning one and losing two. They will need to improve on their League Cup performance, a 7-0 loss to Ross County, as Killie have plenty of attacking threat to their game.
Magennis, Boyd Obadeyi and Kiltie will give them plenty to worry about and Falkirk’s defensive record leaves a lot to be desired. They have conceded at least twice in eight of their last nine games.
Kilmarnock will bring a different physical challenge in this tie and it will be intriguing to see if Falkirk can battle it. They will be more direct in their running and passing and this could cause The Bairns more problems than Hibs’ passing game which they can clearly handle.
But it is that penchant for late goals that will keep this tie interesting. No matter what the situation coming to the end of this first leg Falkirk can not be discounted. They were 0-2 down to Rangers with twelve minutes left before winning 3-2. Against Hibs they were 2-0 down with three minutes left and drew 2-2.
Even just last week they looked like losing out before a 93rd minute winner took them through to face Kilmarnock. Those incidents were not isolated with late goals against Queens, St Mirren and Raith Rovers to rescue the game.
It sets it all up for a fascinating finish to the season with Sunday’s second leg the final match in Scotland. While the first leg is likely to be a cagier affair there is every chance that both games could see their fair share of goals.
Falkirk have been goal crazy lately with thirty-five goals in their last nine games. All bar one of those games saw both teams score and seven of them saw at least four goals. All but two of Falkirk’s last nine home matches have also seen both teams score.
It’s a hard tie to call but getting on the goals trail looks to be a sensible path to take.
Falkirk v Kilmarnock Betting Preview Best Betting Odds
Falkirk are uneasy favourites for the first leg at a best priced 2.5 (6/4) with William Hill. Kilmarnock can be backed at a high of 3.2 (11/5) with Coral while the draw is available at 3.5 (5/2) with Paddy Power and Ladbrokes.
Both teams to score looks to have a right good chance and is tempting at 1.84 (21/25) with 888Sport. But the even money for +2.5 goals from bet365 and McBookie looks to be a much better option and is sure to be popular approaching Thursday evening.
