Falkirk v Elgin City Betting Preview
Betfred Scottish League Cup
Location: Falkirk Community Stadium.
Date: 19th July 2016
Falkirk were the biggest shock losers from Saturday’s matches.
The Bairns cost me and no doubt many others a pretty penny with an insipid performance. Peter Houston was scathing about his sides performance. If you watch the Peter Houston post match interview you will notice something about his voice.
It appears hoarse, tired and verging on breaking. His players were vociferously berated during and after their performance. Houston called it the worst performance in his two years at the club.
The question now is will the players respond to that? Last season they were one of the most impressive sides in Scotland. Furthermore they haven’t been significantly weakened in the close season. If anything they have strengthened their squad.
Blair Alston joined St Johnstone but other than that they held on to all of their young talent. Danny Rodgers has returned from Aberdeen to carry on his excellent goalkeeping performances. Additionally, Luca Gasparotto has come in from Rangers and he could be an excellent acquisition. As could Myles Hippolyte from Livingston and Nathan (Fash) Austin from East Fife.
Elgin City lost one of their most highly rated players from last season. Dylan Easton has joined Scottish League Two rivals Clyde. He is a player they may find difficult to replace.
Their campaign started with a 1-3 home defeat to St Johnstone. Furthermore, Tommy Wright was the only happy manager amongst the big clubs playing lower league opposition. That may have as much to do with the remarkable consistency that his sides show rather than Elgin’s weaknesses.
But their is no doubt the Highland side face a tough task here. It is all the more difficult with Falkirk hurting. Hence, I fully expect them to make it up to their manager and their fans. As a result we are more likely to see the unconquerable home side from last season
