Ladbrokes Scottish Championship
Location: Falkirk Community Stadium.
Date: 14th January 2017
FALKIRK have a big problem right now and it is of their own making.
Such has been their level of performance over the past two seasons fourth place in the Scottish Championship is unacceptable. Before Saturday’s fine win over Raith Rovers they had picked up two points in four matches and just four wins in fourteen.
Conceding goals has been at the root of their problems. They have conceded in all but two of the last fourteen games. Even at home where they were so indomitable last year. The Falkirk Community Stadium has witnessed just two clean sheets this season.
Although Saturday’s win may signal the return of the more formidable Falkirk. It was an impressive result particularly after falling behind to an early goal. It may have owed as much to Raith Rovers’ incompetence but Peter Houston will be lavishing credit on his side.
There is more good news in knowing that three of their five clean sheets came against Saturday’s opponents, Ayr Utd. The Honest Men are struggling badly for goals. It may well cost them dear as they fend off St Mirren in a relegation battle.
Alan Forrest is their leading scorer with six league goals but has only managed two in his last eleven matches. It is often between him and Gary Harkins to fill the strikers berth but neither of them are naturals.
As a result they have failed to win in ten SPFL Championship matches. Although they have avoided defeat in their last four away games. But all of those arguably came against the most out of form sides in the division.
It will be a big ask to stop The Bairns from scoring considering they have drawn one blank in the whole campaign. Falkirk are the league’s second highest scorers with thirty goals. Despite their defensive issues they are having little trouble at the other end.
FALKIRK V AYR UTD BETTING TIPS AND PREDICTIONS BEST BETTING ODDS
Falkirk are available at 1.75 (3/4) with Paddy Power and if that price holds (it won’t) it could be one of the bets of the weekend. Ayr Utd are available at 5.4 (22/5) with McBookie while bet365 are best price for a draw at 3/1.
Backing Falkirk to Win To Nil at 3.1 (21/10) with Paddy Power can be considered. Although their defensive issues make it a risky proposition.
Both teams to score at 1.83 (5/6) with bet365 has little appeal. Taking +2.5 goals at 1.8 (4/5) with bet365 and Coral is preferred. But both teams to score NO at 2.1 (11/10) with McBookie looks a better bet.
Both teams have scored in 11 of Falkirk's last 15.
But only in six of Ayr's last 15 matches.
4 of Falkirk's last 5 home games have seen +2.5 goals.
None of Ayr's last 5 on the road have seen +2.5 goals.
Head To Head Stats
Falkirk have won both Championship matches this season without conceding.
Ayr haven't scored in 270 minutes of normal time against Falkirk but won the Challenge Cup match after extra time.
