Dundee will fancy their chances of topping their group and so do I.
The Dark Blues will miss Paul McGinn who has made his way to the England but they have brought in some quality, too. James Vincent and Danny Williams have signed from Inverness. Michael Duffy has also signed on loan from Celtic.
Their most interesting signing by far is Jordi Teijsse who makes his way Tayside via Holland’s fourth tier. He did smash in more than thirty goals last season so he isn’t coming without some expectation. He is unlikely to dislodge the current incumbents all the same.
Greig Stewart remains at Dundee for the time being and while he partners Kane Hemmings they are still a force to be reckoned with. There may be defensive concerns particularly after McGinn leaving. Paul Hartley fought with and lost to Partick Thistle for Ziggy Gordon’s signature.
He would have made an excellent replacement but for now they will make do with Mark O Hara from Kilmarnock. He is a good young prospect but doesn’t offer up the solidity at right full that either McGinn or Gordon would have done.
East Fife are preparing for life in League One after winning the bottom tier last season. They have made at least seven new signings with Scott Robinson bringing SPFL Premiership experience to the midfield.
In preseason they picked up a couple of decent wins against lower level opposition and gave Aberdeen a game of it in a 2-4 defeat. The Fifers won’t be overawed but if Dundee show up they should have plenty in hand.
And they should have plenty in hand over the whole group with Dumbarton the highest ranked opponents they will have to face. That presents a good betting opportunity and a price that looks out of kilter from where it should be.
