Dunfermline v Inverness Betting Preview
Betfred Scottish League Cup
Location: East End Park
Date: 26th July 2016
Dunfermline and Inverness are battling it out for qualification from a very tough group.
The Pars have started well with two wins against the lower ranked sides in the group. A draw against Inverness Caledonian Thistle might be enough to see them through but only if they pick up the bonus point.
As things stand seven points may not be enough to qualify as a best runner up. Hence the need for Dunfermline to pick up at least two points from their last two matches. Just to be absolutely sure.
For the Caley Jags that means they will need to get something from this game too. They should see off Arbroath in their last match but a defeat here would see them exit the competition. A draw and a bonus point will put them in a strong position but one point alone would be risky.
That would leave Dundee Utd and Dunfermline needing just a point apiece to finish the group as qualifiers. And they meet each other in the final match of the group which could be destined to end in a draw.
Consequently the best plan of attack for Inverness would be to go all out for the win here. But they haven’t shown too much yet to suggest they are in the mood to achieve it. A laboured win over Cowdenbeath who have proven to be the groups whipping boys is their best result so far.
Dunfermline have made excellent additions to their squad with players of Premiership class coming in. Kallum Higginbotham and Gavin Reilly are the main talking points but the likes of Joe Cardle are more than capable of playing at a higher level.
They played four matches against Premiership teams last season winning one and drawing two. And they may well be even stronger this time around.
