Dundee are in the midst of a will he wont he drama that could make or break their season.
Greg Stewart is in discussions with Birmingham City. With a fee agreed between the two clubs it is only personal terms holding up discussions. Stewart has reportedly knocked them back but talks are continuing.
As it stands Paul Hartley is preparing for the match with Greg Stewart firmly in his thoughts. But he admits that there are no guarantees his star striker will still be available come Saturday.
That could leave them short up front following on from the sale of Kane Hemmings. Furthermore, it is likely to affect more than just Saturday’s match. Replacing Stewart will be impossible and he certainly doesn’t have the personnel to hand.
Rory Loy stepped up to the plate on Saturday. He scored two goals in a 1-3 away win at Ross County, a game that Stewart actually missed through injury. But he scored twice on the opening day last season, too. He finished with a relatively meagre return of nine league goals.
Meanwhile Rangers received some good news with Martyn Waghorn revealing he will be out for no more than three weeks. That will relieve some burden with the ageing Kenny Miller and the green Joe Dodoo their only other striking options. Miller is a great man to have around the club but he may find the going tough this year.
Dundee have scored a lot of goals so far this season and can certainly trouble the Rangers rearguard. A 5-0 win over Peterhead on Tuesday hasn’t changed my mind on the fragility of their defence.
But Dundee’s defence could be even more porous. They conceded to everyone but Forfar in the League Cup and couldn’t keep Ross County at bay last weekend. Goals look likely and should be the way to go.
Dundee v Rangers Predictions And Tips Best Betting Odds
Rangers are favourites to win the game at a best price of 1.77 (10/13) with 188Bet. Dundee are available at 4/1 with Betfair, Coral and others. Marathon Bet are best price for the draw at 4.05 (58/19).
Both teams to score has a chance and should be considered at 1.8 (4/5) with Marathon Bet. It holds more appeal than the best price of 1.83 (5/6) for +2.5 goals from the same firm.
Backing Dundee to score +0.5 Team Goals at 1.5 (1/2) with Boylesports could be good for an acca if you’re happy to take a risk with the status of Greg Stewart.
But there is no getting past the both teams to score price even if Stewart moves South.
