Dundee are facing up to life without their three best players from last season.
But Paul Hartley took a lot of positives from their 1-2 defeat to Rangers last weekend. Mark O Hara camr in for particular praise. It’s a credit to Hartley that he recognised his potential for a midfield berth. A role he has taken to with aplomb.
It was a similiar state of affairs for Martin Canning who bemoaned his sides poor luck in a 1-2 home defeat to Kilmarnock. But for excellent saves from Jamie MacDonald and a late free kick that came crashing off the post Accies would likely have got something from the game.
As it stands it’s difficult to separate the sides. They have both performed admirably in their league games while the league cup was an abomination. It makes them very difficult to split and even with home advantage Dundee don’t have a significant edge here.
But goals have been a feature of both sides games so far. All of Dundee’s last five games have seen at least three goals. Even in the absence of Stewart and Hemmings they scored three at Ross County. Hamilton Accies have also seen three or more goals in all but one of their seven games this season.
That said it is still difficult to pinpoint exactly where goals are going to come from for either side. Dundee’s reinforcements up front, El Bakhtaoui and Teijsse, have made nothing but bit part appearances so far.
With the exception of the occasional brilliance of Ali Crawford Accies look entirely toothless. Louis Longridge stepped up to the mark on Saturday but there aren’t many Accies strikers that look likely to hit double figures this season.
It makes backing goals a little risky in my eyes so the price would have to be conducive. As it happens, it is.
Dundee v Hamilton Predictions And Tips – Best Betting Odds
Home advantage makes Dundee favourites at 2.11 (12/11) with Marathon Bet but that is a price that is drifting. There may still be a hint of value in the 3.8 (14/5) price on Hamilton from Skybet. McBookie are best price for the draw at 3.6 (13/5).
Both teams to score can be considered at 1.83 (5/6) with 888Sport. The price for +2.5 goals has more appeal at evens with bet365 and others. That is another price that is drifting so I am going to give it another while before taking the plunge. The way I see it any Dundee game that offers odds against on over 2.5 goals is worth risking this season.
