Dundee opened at 2.4 (7/5) in places but are now odds on across the board.
There is an incredible gamble on Dundee here and on the face of it who can blame them? Accies were woeful in losing 0-4 to Kilmarnock last weekend. All they had to do was avoid defeat and their relegation worries were all but over.
Instead they have lost their goal difference advantage and could be staring relegation in the face by this time next week. They will need to improve massively on last week’s performance to have any hope of avoiding that threat.
But there are a few things riding in their favour. While Dundee are in excellent form with just four defeats in their last fifteen Premiership matches their season’s biggest game was played on Monday night.
The Dundee fans are still talking about that and those that go to Saturday’s match will be singing about sinking Dundee Utd with little consideration of the event in front of them. There must be some doubt as to whether the players will lift themselves again after that momentous event.
Accies can also look to their own form and the best of it has come away from home. They have won three of their last five away matches and they also smashed Dundee’s top six hopes with a 2-1 win at home less than a month ago.
There is also hope in how they have bounced back after poor performances this season. After an 8-1 humiliation at Celtic Park they drew 0-0 with Hearts and beat Kilmarnock in their next two matches.
After looking lopsided and woeful in a 3-0 going on 8-0 loss to Aberdeen they won their next two games against Dundee and Dundee Utd. After they lost the Lanarkshire derby to an in form Motherwell last month they went to Inverness and took home all three points.
In fact they have only lost two games in a row once in 2016 and Dundee haven’t won two home games in a row at all this season. While I would have been happy to plump for Dundee on their original market price there is reason to oppose the gamble now that Dundee’s price has become completely unbackable.
