Celtic earned all kinds of plaudits against Man City but if I was Paul Hartley I would fancy my chances.
Forget about back to back 3-1 defeats and no wins for six matches. Forget about Celtic being Champions and having put it up to one of the world’s top five sides. Kevin Gomis and Mark O’Hara return from suspension and Celtic will have tired legs.
Ok, when I say “Fancy my chances” what I actually mean is “now is as good a chance as any”. On quick reflection that doesn’t actually increase their chances massively. Celtic are on fire and even if they make changes, which I expect, they are likely to win.
The most phenomenal thing about Celtic’s performance against Man City was that they kept up their goalscoring form. Domestically they have scored twenty-one goals in their last five games. Thirty if you want to go back to their last seven.
Many of the goals were scored with former Dee, Leigh Griffiths, watching on from the sidelines. Imagine that? Now imagine saying that at any time over last season. Incredible.
Griffiths could well start on Saturday morning after Dembele ran himself into the ground. As could Roberts and Gamboa and many others. There are tired legs in Celtic’s side after ninety minutes on Wednesday.
That is Dundee’s best hope. That perhaps Celtic have punched themselves out. They certainly looked leg weary in Inverness after losing in Barcelona. But even then they should have been out of sight long before ninety minutes had expired.
And this time they won’t have been deflated by the midweek result. It is also worth remembering that it was a home tie. Not much in the way of travelling. There should still be plenty in that tank come Saturday morning.
Dundee v Celtic Betting Tips And Predictions – Best Betting Odds
Celtic are no better than 1.27 (3/11) with Marathon Bet. Dundee are available at 13/1 with bet365. 888Sport are best price for the draw at 6.75 (23/4).
The short price on Celtic makes it impossible to find value in any of the usual markets. To score in the first half is no better than 1.36 (9/25). To be winning at half-time and full-time no better than 1.73 (3/4) with Coral.
You have to look to Dundee to find any value because that is where it’s at. They are even money just to score with Pokerstars or 1.95 (19/20) with Coral. A +2 Asian Handicap for the home side is available at 1.81 (13/16) with McBookie. Celtic have covered a one goal handicap just once in their last thirteen away matches.
But both teams to score at 2.1 (11/10) with Skybet has lots of appeal. Everyone of Celtic’s six Premiership games have seen both teams score and all but one of Dundee’s seven. That’s hard to ignore.
Another thing worth noting is nine of the elven league goals at Dens Park have been scored in the first half. The first half to be the highest scoring half is 3.4 (12/5) with Coral. I will probably have a pop at both of those bets.
