Celtic have banged in eleven goals in their last two meetings with Dundee but neither of them were at Dens Park.
In fact The Hoops haven’t managed to score more than two goals at Dens since 2002. There were only three games in the eight years from 2004 to 2012 but since Dundee have returned to The Premiership Celtic have scored twenty-seven goals to Dundee’s three.
Both sides are heading into this game with a clutch of injury worries. Dundee could be missing all of Etxabeguren (definite), Bain, Low, Hemmings, Konrad, Thomson and Irvine. Celtic have issues with Brown, Mulgrew (both definite), Boyata, Ambrose, Lustig, Commons, Griffiths and Armstrong.
A growing discontent is emerging amongst Celtic fans with the performance of their current side. A poor European campaign has seen the confidence ebb from their domestic campaign. They have failed to win domestically in the last two games and the last time that happened was a year ago, to the day.
That does set a precedent for Celtic fans to garner some hope from. After losing to Dundee Utd and drawing with Ross County over the Christmas period last year they turned the new year with a 0-2 win away to Kilmarnock.
That was the first of twenty league games with just one defeat, at home to St Johnstone. The only other team to beat them in normal time in twenty-eight matches was Inter at the San Siro. They went on to win the league (by seventeen points), the league cup and were a horrendous refereeing mistake from a real shot at the treble.
This Celtic side is two centre-half backs short of that one but they face a Dundee side who are in a heap of trouble of their own. One win in ten matches isn’t the kind of form you want heading into a game with the champions.
With the big Dundee Derby at the weekend plenty of their fans would be quite happy to just see this one put to bed quickly and move on to more important matters.
