Dundee Utd v Partick Thistle betting preview
William Hill Scottish Cup 5th Round
Date: 6th February 2016
Dundee Utd fans truly believe that the great escape is on but for now can distract themselves with dreams of the Scottish Cup.
The last game they played was here at Tannadice and it was a phenomonal 5-1 victory over Kilmarnock. Thistle will prove a much tougher nut to crack than Gary Locke’s Killie but The Terrors are beginning to look like a team with a few nutcrackers in their ranks.
Questions must be asked over their sale of John Souttar to Hearts on deadline day particularly as it left them no time to find a replacement. In truth though, he hadn’t been fitting into Big Mixu’s plans with no more than a place on the bench for most of the last month.
Instead Mixu will look to Guy Demel to be the driving force in midfield and with Blair Spittal in flying form The Arabs can be glad they held onto him after the window closed. Another boost for United is the reemergence of Ryan Dow although whether he recaptures the form of a few seasons back is yet to be confirmed.
Thistle come into this game on the back of a much needed home win over Motherwell on Tuesday. A deflected goal late in the game prevented them from drawing their fourth blank in five games and covers some of the problems they have been experiencing lately.
As I pointed out last week The Jags often struggle when Kris Doolan is off form. As he bears down on seventy-five goals in his Thistle career he has managed just one goal in his last seven games. Outside of Amoo nobody else at Thistle has managed more than two goals all season and it is this lack of firepower that could cost them on Saturday.
Dundee Utd v Partick Thistle Betting Preview Betting Odds
The home side are favourites and their price is shortening but I wouldn’t go far below the current 2.4 (7/5) available with Skybet, Paddy Power and William Hill. Thistle are best priced at 2/1 with bet365 and McBookie while the draw is 3.6 (13/5) with Ladbrokes, McBookie and bet365.
For me United have a good chance to advance here but I am again going to play it safe by backing them Draw No Bet at 1.8 (4/5) with Ladbrokes. That’s as low as I would go for that bet but it is worth taking while still available.
