With news emerging of Danny Lennon’s resignation as manager of Alloa, Dumbarton have suddenly become a good bet.
I had been tossing the idea of backing The Sons around in my mind all day for this Scottish Cup third round tie. Fresh off the back of a 0-2 win away to The Wasps at the weekend it may have seemed like a no brainer but I had yet to be convinced.
Stevie Aitken’s Dumbarton side did well to win another three points on Saturday but before that they weren’t in spectacular form. Considering Alloa’s only Championship win this season came away to Dumbarton in September I saw enough reason to back off.
Now that The Wasps are without a manager I am happy to change my mind. Assistant manager Paddy Connolly will take the team for Tuesday’s match and that is unlikely to provide a new manager bounce in the short term.
A home draw against Queen Of The South awaits the winner and that should be enough to spur on the home side.

Coral lead the way in the betting for a home win. A price of 1.83(5/6) for the home win seemed fair before the news of Danny Lennon’s resignation. Now it seems like value.
The rest of the bookies are hovering between 1.67(4/6) and 1.57(4/7). I wouldn’t be surprised to see Coral reach that price before long and I don’t expect the other firms to come up the way either.
The only danger, as with every game right now, is the weather. For that reason I have decided against backing +1.5 Dumbarton team goals at a best 1.77 with 888Sport.
