Location: Celtic Park
Date: 20th December 2016
The wheels haven’t come off at Celtic Park but the tyres seem a little deflated.
It’s ridiculous to say that about a side who are unbeaten in twenty domestic matches while winning nineteen. But you know what? I submit that Brendan Rodgers agrees.
A man reluctant to make changes to his starting lineup in the first few months of the season has made some swingeing cuts of late. After a sub par performance at home to Hamilton Accies he made five changes to Saturday’s lineup.
Another performance that fell below their own very high standards followed. As a result it wouldn’t surprise to see him make more changes for Tuesday. Although there are alternative reasons why he would.
It’s been a hectic schedule for The Hoops and December alone will see them play nine games. From Tuesday on they have to play four games in eleven days before the winter break. That takes it’s toll so there will be players looking to that rest already.
Meanwhile Partick Thistle are propping up the table but I maintain they are not the worst team in the Scottish Premiership. They have won just two of their last fifteen matches but if you look deeper into their recent form it looks better than that.
In their last eight games they have played everyone in the top five. They made Aberdeen and Rangers work hard for their wins while drawing with Hearts and taking all three points from St Johnstone. A little more luck and they could be at least four points better off.
In The Jags’ recent meeting with Celtic they were better than the 1-4 defeat suggested. But that shows Celtic’s great strength this season. Despite the schedule, a few injuries to key players and the multitudinous changes they keep on winning. And they will most likely do so again.
But don’t bet on it being overly comfortable.
CELTIC V PARTICK THISTLE BETTING TIPS AND PREDICTIONS BEST BETTING ODDS
Celtic -2 Asian Handicap is no better than 1.7 (7/10) with McBookie. You have to venture towards -2.5 (-2 European Handicap) to get odds against. Recent form should be enough to steer you clear.
Both teams to score is 2.2 (6/5) with Paddy Power and others and recent form suggests Celtic’s defensive resolve has slipped. Instead of backing both teams to score NO at 1.75 (3/4) you could back Thistle to score Under 0.5 Team Goals at 1.8 (4/5) with Marathon Bet.
But the goals markets may be where the best value lies. Under 3.5 goals is priced at 1.95 (19/20) with Marathon Bet.
I expect The Jags to be prickly opposition for the most part so that could provide an early Christmas boost.
Both teams scored in 4 of Celtic's & Thistle's last 5 matches.
Thistle have scored in all but one of their last 5 away while Celtic have conceded in 2 of their last 5 at home.
Head To Head Stats

Thistle have scored twice in the last nine attempts at Celtic Park.
