Celtic will make changes for their League Cup quarter final against Alloa Athletic.

It’s been a hectic old schedule for The Hoops with trips to Inverness and Barcelona in the recent past. In the league they have played all of their closest rivals and those exertions will of course take their toll.

Hence I expect Brendan Rodgers to ring in the changes like it was new year for Wednesday. A number of fringe players played for the U20s on Monday which may make them unlikely to start. But even with them excepted there a load waiting in the wings.

Armstrong, Christie, Izaguirre, Simunovic and Henderson all look likely to get the nod. Scott Brown, Mikael Lustig and Kieran Tierney could be rested. They have played the most minutes of Celtic’s first team.

Craig Gordon will also be a likely starter. He will of course be coming in with a point to prove. But the changes are unlikely to end there. Rodgers will want to give the fringe players some game time as much as rest those who have been at the coalface.

It’s unlikely to improve Alloa’s chances of winning too much. Even though The Wasps have been in great form this season. They have already beaten two Premiership sides in the competition and will fancy their chances of making it a hattrick.

However they did need a late comeback to prevent a run of two defeats in a row at the weekend. While that exhibits steely resolve it also highlights the gulf in class they’ll be facing on Wednesday. Even if the Celtic team is full of reserves.

But that doesn’t necessarily limit the betting options. Second string sides usually won’t be as fluent as the first team. With the prices reflecting a full strength Celtic side the handicaps could provide a little opportunity.

Celtic v Alloa Betting Tips And Predictions – Best Betting Odds

William Hill offer the best price on a Celtic win of 1.1 (1/10). Alloa are available at 40/1 with McBookie and Coral. Marathon Bet are best price for the draw at 12/1.

Many will look to the handicaps to try and eke out some value but I would urge caution with Celtic. Instead I suggest taking a small risk with Alloa +3 Asian Handicap. That offers stake back insurance should Alloa lose by exactly three goals.

McBookie are the only ones to have that price available at the moment so I would suggest waiting for more to open. Particularly as the McBookie price of 1.89 (8/9) is just a little shorter than I would have liked.

Celtic’s League Cup history is chequered at best so Alloa may just do enough to avoid a hammering. Who knows? They may even go one better.
