Irn Bru Scottish Challenge Cup
Location: Somerset Park
Date: 7th October 2016
Two Scottish sides facing each other is something of a rarity at this stage.
Of the eight ties in this round of the competition only four of them contain two Scottish sides. While the other ties will have a great deal of uncertainty about them there is plenty we know about Ayr Utd v Falkirk.
They played each other just two weeks ago in the Scottish Championship although that game was in Falkirk. The Bairns came out on top with a 2-0 victory but the scoreline doesn't tell the whole story.
The Honest Men came away from that tie feeling justifiably aggrieved, which is remarkable when you consider their form just a few weeks previous. They had lost all but one of five games before a win over Airdrie in this competition turned their form around.
Falkirk are now the only side to beat them in their last five matches. The have picked up wins against Morton and Hibs while settling for a solid point at home to Dunfermline at the weekend. If Falkirk treat this game with the slightest bit of contempt they could be in for a hard time of it.
The Bairns will be missing their number one goalkeeper, Danny Rogers, after he was called up to the Ireland squad for their World Cup qualifiers. There are also suggestions that Nathan (Fash) Austin could play after he missed a development squad game during the week.
Despite Ayr's good form they have gone two games without a goal. And that poor goalscoring form should trouble them. Nobody has scored more than once for them in the league. Alan Forrest has four goals all told but most of them came against weaker opposition than Falkirk.
Falkirk are always a solid defensive unit so it could be a long night for Ayr Utd. Depending, of course, on how Falkirk approach it.
BETTING TIPS AND PREDICTIONS BEST BETTING ODDS
Falkirk are favourites at 1.95 (19/20) with Marathon Bet. Ayr Utd are available at 4.1 (31/10) with the same firm. Marathon Bet are also best price for the draw at 3.65 (45/17).
Both teams to score has little appeal at 1.56 (14/25) also with Marathon Bet. The opposite bet of both teams to score NO looks more attractive at 2.5 (6/4) with McBookie.
The same logic applies for the goals markets with under 2.5 goals looking best at 2.3 (13/10) with Betfair.
50% of Ayr Utd's games have seen under 2.5 Goals
53% of Falkirk's games have seen under 2.5 goals.
Head To Head Stats
