What can you do with a problem like Alloa Athletic?
That is a question most League One managers must be asking themselves. The Wasps have blown away the competition in their two league matches so far. Peterhead and Stranraer, both playoff hopefuls, conceded nine goals between them.
But their form is greater than two league games. In the League Cup they have seen off two Premiership sides and Raith Rovers from the Championship. All in that makes it seven wins on the trot for Jack Ross’ side.
They look insatiable at the moment. As a result they are likely to set the pace in the promotion race with Livingston hanging onto their coat tails. Hence, from a betting point of view, we need to take advantage while there is still some to take.
Although East Fife will be no pushovers. They are in good form themselves with four points from their first two league games. Their 0-3 win in Peterhead last week shows that they too have something to offer. And they picked up another win midweek in the Irn-Bru Cup albeit after extra time.
That extra time should be a concern. Most of their first team played some part in that match. For a part time side that will have taken a lot out of them. Alloa have yet to enter the Challenge Cup and as such will be well rested.
But even if they weren’t you have to fancy them in this tie. Scoring five goals in the first half at Stranraer shows them to be a step above this level. Stranraer won 7-1 against Brora Rangers midweek which shows that they have something to offer, too.
It is impossible to oppose Alloa on current form. If you are offered a good price you should take it.
Alloa v East Fife Betting Tips And Predictions
Alloa are 1.67 (4/6) with Paddy Power and Coral. East Fife are available at 4.95 (75/19) with Marathon Bet. Stanjames are best price for a draw at 4.5 (7/2).
Backing Alloa team goals is also an option. Over 2.5 team goals is 2.7 (17/10) with McBookie and Coral. Furthermore they have been quick out of the blocks so backing them to score +0.5 First Half Goals is worth considering at 1.6 (3/5) with Betfair.
Paddy Power will pay 2.88 (15/8) for a -1 handicap. A -2 handicap is 5/1 with the same firm.
Both teams to score is short at 1.62 (8/13). Backing both teams to score NO at 2.55 (31/20) with Mcbookie looks a better option. But in that case it would be better to back Alloa to Win To Nil at 3.6 (13/5) with Paddy Power.
