Airdrieonians v Forfar Betting Preview
Location: Excelsior Stadium
Date: 8th March 2016
Exactly what went wrong at Forfar is very hard to fathom.
They started the season superbly with five wins from their first six games and then they took Hearts to extra-time in the league cup. For some reason that’s when it all went pear shaped with just two wins in their next twenty-four games.
A mini-revival of late was halted when bottom of the table Brechin City hammered them 4-0 last midweek. A 1-0 defeat at Stranraer at the weekend sees them but a single point off the automatic relegation place.
At Airdrieonians there are more pressing matters than winning football games. At half-time in Saturday’s game their coach, Eddie Wolecki-Black, was taken to hospital having suffered from a stroke.
Needless to say he won’t be taking any part in the preparations for this game but the question we must ask is how will his players respond? You have got to believe there will be some sort of an extra will to win, a ‘lets do it for the manager’ affect.
Having been appointed in late December EWB had been doing a good job at the Excelsior. After losing his first two games, four wins and two draws from the next eight have been enough to steer them into fourth and the playoff positions.
It’s going to be a close run thing as to who finally finishes in fourth but if Airdrie have any chance they have to be beating the likes of Forfar at home. If a ‘do it for the manager’ affect isn’t enough surely a ‘do it to make the playoffs’ desire will be all that is needed.
They bolstered the midfield in the January transfer window by signing Hugo Faria from Livingston and Jordan Thompson from Rangers. Meanwhile, up front, Jim Lister has banged in six goals in his last eight games and he could be the difference between the sides.
Airdrieonians v Forfar Betting Preview Betting Odds
The Diamonds are well priced favourites here at even money with Ladbrokes, McBookie and Betfair and are worth a look. Forfar are available at 3.74 (52/19) with Marathon bet while the draw is best at 3.8 (14/5) with Marathon Bet.
Goals are hard to predict but I am not tempted by both teams to score at a best 1.67 (4/6) with bet365. The same applies for the best price of 1.73 (8/11) for +2.5 total goals from Ladbrokes and bet365.
