Aberdeen v St Johnstone Betting Tips And Predictions
Betfred Scottish League Cup – Quarter Final
Date: 22nd September 2016
Live on BT Sport 1
The last of the Betfred Cup quarter finals between Aberdeen and St Johnstone could be the best of them.
It is certainly one of the most difficult to predict. The Dons got back on their feet with a convincing win away to Dundee at the weekend. Meanwhile The Saints have two excellent wins on the bounce over Thistle and Hearts.
Tommy Wright’s side halted a mini crisis after a good start that saw them go their first six competitive matches unbeaten. They have beaten Hearts twice already this season and held Aberdeen to a 0-0 draw just over a month ago.
But Aberdeen have improved since then. Sunday’s victory at Dundee was perhaps their best performance of the season. Aided by the returning Johnny Hayes and the inclusion of James Maddison, Jayden Stockley came off the bench to make the difference.
And it is that strength in depth that is the most ominous sign for St Johnstone. As well as Stockley they had Burns, Storey, Storie, Pawlett and Reynolds in the dugout. That’s the strongest bench Derek McInnes could call on in his three years at Pittodrie.
He could include some of them from the start but he is unlikely to be sweeping with his changes. The lure of a semi-final is too great to take a risk with. A home tie away from Hampden should focus minds.
St Johnstone have something of a defensive injury crisis to deal with, too. Former Don, Ricky Foster, will also miss out having appeared for Ross County in earlier rounds. That leaves the right back position up in the air which could leave Johnny Hayes with a free reign to create havoc.
With The Dandies drifting in the betting they are becoming an increasingly tempting proposition.
Aberdeen v St Johnstone Betting Tips And Predictions – Best Betting Odds
Aberdeen are favourites at 1.87 (13/15) with Marathon Bet. St Johnstone are available at 4.8 (19/5) with Betfred. bet365 have the best price for the draw at 3.8 (14/5).
Head to head stats show that goals are hit and miss. Both teams to score is even money with Betfair. The price of 2.1 (11/10) for +2.5 goals also looks a tad short to consider.
It’s a tough one to call with Aberdeen’s home form this season leaving plenty to be desired. But if they drift much further it could be hard to refuse.
