Aberdeen v St Johnstone Betting Preview
Date: 27th February 2016
The last time Aberdeen hosted St Johnstone it finished 1-5 to the away side.
That result for The Saints was surprising but I will eat the smelly hat of a homeless dog if that transpires again. Back then St Johnstone were actually in decent form going on a run of eleven wins in fifteen games and seven away wins in a row.
It was also smack bang in the middle of The Dons worst form when they lost four games on the spin. Now St Johnstone have won one in eleven and failed to pick up any points on the road for five games. Aberdeen had looked like their imperial best before slipping up to Inverness last time out.
You have to keep returning to that analogy of the eternally second placed horse when referring to Aberdeen. They have had the chance to go top of the table on at least three occasions this season and every time they have, I’ll be kind here, not taken the opportunity.
By the time this game kicks off on Saturday they could be nine points behind and that’s when they have performed at their best this season. When the pressure has been off, as it will likely be with all the inevitable chat about the title race being over, they usually come out firing.
Johnny Hayes being absent should be a concern for The Dons as he has been their driving force throughout this season. They will also be missing Shay Logan and that represents a small problem regarding who is going to replace him. Don’t be surprised to see Graeme Shinne shuffle across to the right hand side with Considine filling in at left back.
Shinnie is very versatile and is having a great first season for Aberdeen already deputising in the captain’s role in Ryan Jack’s absence. Another man who is having a fine season is Adam Rooney and his goal threat could well be enough to take the three points for Aberdeen.
Aberdeen v St Johnstone Betting Preview Betting Odds
Aberdeen are quite backable and could make a good acca filler at a best 1.6 (3/5) with William Hill. St Johnstone are available at 6.5 (11/2) with McBookie while the draw is best priced at 4.3 (33/10) with Marathon Bet.
Both teams to score does have half a chance at 2.12 (28/25) with 888Sport but it’s worth noting that St Johnstone have drawn three blanks in their last five away matches. The +2.5 total goals markets look short at 2.0 (evens) with bet365, William Hill, Coral and McBookie. It’s is rare for Aberdeen to win 3-0 or more so there is much more value in the both teams to score price.
I have included an Aberdeen win in the Even Money Double bet from the Scottish Football Accumulator Tips page which is hopefully heading for it’s seventh win in eight attempts.
