People were beginning to talk about Hamilton Accies making another charge this season but a 4-1 defeat at the weekend put a stop to that.
Instead everyone is talking about Aberdeen and their club record beating 6th straight victory. That it came against the champions, Celtic, and was secured after they had been reduced to ten men only gives it more air.
Aberdeen now rest two points clear of Celtic with a game in hand and they no longer have the distraction of a Europa League group stage. Their price to end the season as champions has been cut to as low as 6/1 with Paddy Power.
It’s still a bit early to be making bold predictions of Championship form but it’s certainly a shot in the arm for the Scottish Premiership (It is worth noting that no bookie has extended Celtic’s price to win the league beyond the 1.08 available at the start of the season).
On Tuesday evening The Dons are priced best at 1.44(11/25) with McBookie, Ladbrokes and William Hill to win their 7th match in a row. That might seem a little short given the form Hamilton have been exhibiting but there are a few caveats to throw in to the mix.
Hamilton’s best form under Martin Canning has been at home where they remain unbeaten since February. Away from New Douglas Park they have won just 3 in 14 matches and only 2 of them were under the tutelage of Canning.
This season they have conceded 8 goals in 4 away matches including a disappointing defeat away to the Championship’s Raith Rovers. Their poor away form was exemplified at the weekend with the 4-1 defeat at the hands of Saint Johnstone.

So considering that and considering Aberdeen’s inordinately good home form over the course of the last year, a price of 1.5(1/2) would seem perfectly reasonable for a home victory. It won’t be a price that will entice many into a bet, though.
Instead we are having to look around for value and the place to find that should be in the correct score markets.
Taking Celtic out of the equation Aberdeen have won 10 of their last 14 home matches without conceding a goal. That includes a loss when the league was lost and heads had dropped, a 0-0 draw with Thistle and two 2-1 victories.
Of those wins to nil four were of a scoreline of 2-0 and another four a scoreline of 1-0. You can back both outcomes at a price of 6/1 with McBookie, Paddy Power and William Hill. At those ratios that would have seen a handsome return of 28 points or a 100% ROI(return on investment) over the piece.
That’s more than enough to entice me into a bet on the two outcomes.
